Just as we know, temperature is the most important factor to affect beer storage quality. It also can become a real balancing act. Beer benefits from cool constant temperatures, 45-50 degrees F is ideal temperature for most beers. Higher temperatures will put your beer in the risk of shorter lifespan, on the other hand, lower temperature will induce chill haze (cloudy).
There are 3 storage temperatures used to lay beer down for maturation and/or storage. Your strong beers (like barleywines, tripes, dark ales) will be their happiest at room temperature (50-55F), most of your standard ales (like bitters, IPAs, dobbelbocks, lambics, stouts, etc) will be at cellar temperature (45-50F) and your lighter beers (like lagers, pilsners, wheat beers, milds, etc) will be at a cold room temperature (40-45F). Usually the higher alcohol likes the higher temperature and lower alcohol likes the lower temperature.
